This Privacy Policy (the “Policy“) governs the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of Personal Information by Canrover Inc. (“Canrover“, “Operator“, “we“, “our“, or “us“) in connection with the Services.
Canrover is committed to protecting the privacy of Riders and other individuals whose Personal Information is collected in connection with the Services.
This Policy is intended to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada) (“PIPEDA“) and other applicable privacy laws.
- SCOPE AND APPLICATION
This Policy applies to all Personal Information collected, used, disclosed, stored, or otherwise processed by Canrover in connection with the Services.
This Policy applies to:
- Riders who create User Accounts;
- individuals who rent, unlock, reserve, operate, or otherwise use Vehicles;
- individuals who communicate with Canrover regarding customer support, claims, disputes, or investigations; and
- visitors to the App and any related websites.
- DEFINITIONS
- “Agreement” means the Terms of Service together with any policies incorporated by reference, including this Policy.
- “App” means the Canrover mobile application and any related software used to access or operate the Services.
- “Personal Information” means information about an identifiable individual and includes information that can reasonably be associated with a particular person.
- “Rider“, “you“, or “your” means an individual who accesses or uses the Services or rents, unlocks, operates, or otherwise uses a Vehicle.
- “Services” means the website, App, scooter rental platform, Vehicle, equipment, support services, ride management services, payment processing services, and all related products and services made available by
- “User Account” means a Rider account created through the App or Services.
- “Vehicle” or “Vehicles” means any electric scooter or similar vehicle, together with any associated equipment, accessories, components, locks, chargers, helmets, or related items, made available by Canrover for use through the Services, whether owned, leased, licensed, or otherwise operated by Canrover.
- ACCOUNTABILITY
Canrover is responsible for Personal Information under its control and has designated an individual responsible for overseeing compliance with this Policy and applicable privacy legislation.
Privacy-related inquiries, access requests, correction requests, deletion requests, and complaints may be directed to info@canrover.ca.
- COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
Canrover collects only such Personal Information as is reasonably necessary to provide, maintain, improve, secure, and legally operate the Services.
- Information Provided by Riders
Canrover may collect:
- full name;
- email address;
- telephone number;
- date of birth;
- government-issued identification documents;
- photographs, selfies, or facial images submitted for identity verification;
- payment and billing information;
- account preferences and settings; and
- communications with customer support.
- Ride and Location Information
Canrover may collect information relating to the use of Vehicles and the Services, including:
- ride start and ride end times;
- ride duration;
- ride routes;
- pickup and drop-off locations;
- parking verification information;
- GPS location information collected during active rides;
- ride history; and
- reservation and booking information.
Canrover primarily collects GPS location information during active rides. Limited location information may also be collected immediately before, during, or following a ride where reasonably necessary to facilitate ride initiation and completion, verify parking compliance, investigate incidents, prevent fraud, recover Vehicles, maintain the security and integrity of the Services, or otherwise support the operation of the Services.
- Vehicle and Telemetry Information
Vehicles may automatically transmit operational and diagnostic information including:
- battery status;
- vehicle location;
- lock and unlock events;
- ride initiation and completion events;
- connectivity information;
- maintenance and diagnostic alerts;
- tampering or misuse alerts; and
- other operational data reasonably required for fleet management.
- Device and Technical Information
Canrover may automatically collect:
- IP addresses;
- browser type;
- operating system information;
- mobile device identifiers;
- application version information;
- crash reports and diagnostic information; and
- App usage information.
- PURPOSES OF COLLECTION, USE, AND DISCLOSURE
Canrover collects, uses, and discloses Personal Information only for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, including:
- creating and administering User Accounts;
- providing access to Vehicles and the Services;
- processing payments, subscriptions, passes, reservations, and refunds;
- verifying identity, age, and eligibility requirements;
- preventing fraud, theft, misuse, and unauthorized activity;
- maintaining, monitoring, and managing the vehicle fleet;
- investigating accidents, safety incidents, damage claims, and insurance matters;
- communicating with Riders regarding account activity, customer support requests, safety notices, service updates, promotional communications, and other service-related matters;
- improving and developing the Services;
- conducting analytics and operational reporting using aggregated or de-identified information where appropriate;
- enforcing the Agreement; and
- complying with legal, regulatory, insurance, contractual, and law enforcement requirements.
Riders may voluntarily submit photographs, videos, or other content through the Services, including parking verification photographs, damage reports, identity verification images, and customer support submissions. Such content may contain metadata, including timestamps and location information. Canrover may collect, use, and disclose such content for operational purposes, fleet management, fraud prevention, identity verification, dispute resolution, insurance investigations, maintenance activities, legal compliance, and the protection of Canrover’s rights and interests.
Canrover does not sell Personal Information.
Canrover may use automated tools, monitoring systems, and internal review processes to identify, investigate, and prevent suspicious activity, payment risks, fraud, theft, misuse of Vehicles, safety concerns, or violations of the Agreement.
- CONSENT
By creating a User Account, submitting information to Canrover, accessing, or using the Services, Riders consent to the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and processing of Personal Information as described in this Policy.
Canrover may obtain and record consent through electronic means, including in-app acknowledgements, click-through agreements, payment authorization workflows, electronic signatures, checkboxes, and other electronic acceptance methods.
For legal, operational, security, fraud prevention, and compliance purposes, Canrover may maintain records relating to Rider consents and acknowledgements, including the type of consent provided, the version of the applicable agreement or policy, the date and time of acceptance, the method of acceptance, and associated account, device, or transaction information.
A Rider may withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice requirements. Withdrawal of consent may affect Canrover’s ability to provide certain Services, maintain a User Account, verify identity, process payments, or otherwise fulfill its obligations in connection with the Services.
Where identity verification is required, Riders will be informed of the applicable requirements during the registration or verification process and must provide any consents required for the collection, use, disclosure, and processing of identification documents, facial images, or related verification information.
- IDENTITY VERIFICATION
Identity verification is required for all Riders.
To verify eligibility and reduce fraud, Canrover may require Riders to submit:
- government-issued identification documents;
- photographs or selfies; and
- other verification information reasonably required by Canrover or its service providers.
Identity verification information is collected, used, and disclosed solely for identity verification, age verification, fraud prevention, account security, safety investigations, legal compliance, enforcement of the Agreement, and other related operational purposes.
Canrover does not use facial images or identity verification information for advertising, behavioural profiling, marketing purposes, or other unrelated commercial activities.
Identity verification services may be provided by third-party service providers retained by Canrover. Such service providers may process identification documents, facial images, and related verification information on Canrover’s behalf and are contractually required to use such information only for authorized verification, security, and compliance purposes.
Access to identity verification information is restricted to authorized personnel, service providers, and systems that require access for legitimate business purposes, including identity verification, fraud prevention, safety investigations, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and enforcement of the Agreement.
Identity verification information is protected using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encryption, access controls, secure transmission methods, monitoring systems, and other measures designed to prevent unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or loss of such information.
Canrover retains identity verification information only for so long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including fraud prevention, legal compliance, insurance investigations, dispute resolution, and enforcement of the Agreement, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
- DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
Personal Information may be disclosed to:
- payment processors and financial service providers;
- identity verification service providers;
- cloud hosting providers;
- technology and infrastructure providers;
- customer support providers;
- insurers and claims administrators;
- legal counsel and professional advisors;
- law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, courts, regulators, and governmental authorities where required or permitted by law;
- parties involved in mergers, acquisitions, financing transactions, or corporate reorganizations; and
- other parties where disclosure is authorized by the Rider or required by law.
- SERVICE PROVIDERS
Canrover may engage third-party service providers to support the operation of the Services.
Service providers may assist with:
- payment processing;
- cloud hosting;
- identity verification;
- communications and notifications;
- analytics;
- customer support; and
- operational and technical services.
Canrover requires its service providers to maintain appropriate safeguards and to process Personal Information only for authorized purposes. Service providers that process identity verification information are contractually restricted from using, retaining, disclosing, selling, or otherwise exploiting such information except as necessary to provide verification, security, fraud prevention, and related services on Canrover’s behalf.
- DATA RESIDENCY AND CROSS-BORDER PROCESSING
Canrover primarily operates within Manitoba and seeks to use service providers that maintain appropriate privacy and security safeguards.
Personal Information may be collected, stored, processed, or accessed by Canrover and its third-party service providers within or outside Canada. As a result, Personal Information may be transferred to, processed in, or accessed from jurisdictions whose privacy laws may differ from those applicable in Manitoba or elsewhere in Canada.
Where Personal Information is transferred outside Canada, Canrover will take reasonable contractual, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect such information and to ensure that it is handled in a manner consistent with this Policy and applicable privacy laws.
By using the Services, Riders acknowledge and agree that Personal Information may be transferred to, processed in, or accessed from jurisdictions outside Manitoba or Canada where reasonably necessary for the operation of the Services.
- SAFEGUARDS
Canrover maintains reasonable administrative, technical, organizational, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the Personal Information collected and designed to protect such information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, loss, misuse, or destruction.
Such safeguards may include:
- encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate;
- access controls and authentication procedures;
- role-based permissions;
- monitoring and logging systems;
- secure cloud infrastructure;
- personnel confidentiality obligations;
- payment processing through secure third-party providers; and
- security incident response procedures.
While Canrover employs commercially reasonable safeguards, no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
- RETENTION AND DESTRUCTION
Canrover retains Personal Information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- provide the Services;
- maintain business and operational records;
- comply with legal, regulatory, insurance, tax, and accounting obligations;
- investigate incidents and disputes; and
- enforce contractual rights.
Unless a longer retention period is required by law or operational necessity, Canrover currently anticipates retaining:
- User Account information for the duration of the account and up to seven (7) years thereafter;
- ride history for up to seven (7) years;
- GPS and ride location records for up to three (3) years;
- identity verification records for the duration of the account and up to seven (7) years thereafter; and
- incident reports, insurance records, claims records, and dispute-related information for up to seven (7) years following final resolution of the matter.
The foregoing retention periods are guidelines only and may be extended where reasonably necessary to comply with legal obligations, respond to regulatory requirements, prevent fraud, conduct investigations, resolve disputes, protect the rights and interests of Canrover, or otherwise support the operation of the Services.
Upon expiry of the applicable retention period, Personal Information will be securely deleted, anonymized, or otherwise destroyed in accordance with Canrover’s records management and data disposal practices.
Canrover does not create or store biometric templates for continuous identification, facial recognition, or Rider tracking purposes.
- INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS
Subject to applicable law, individuals may have the right to:
- request access to the Personal Information held by Canrover;
- request correction of inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated Personal Information;
- request deletion of Personal Information where Canrover is not required to retain such information;
- withdraw consent to the collection, use, or disclosure of Personal Information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice requirements; and
- request information regarding Canrover’s collection, use, disclosure, retention, and privacy practices.
Canrover may require reasonable verification of identity before responding to any request in order to protect the privacy and security of Personal Information.
Requests will be reviewed and processed in accordance with applicable law. In certain circumstances, Canrover may be unable to provide access to, correct, or delete Personal Information where such action would be prohibited by law, would adversely affect the rights of another individual, or where the information is otherwise exempt from access, correction, or deletion requirements.
Withdrawal of consent may limit Canrover’s ability to provide certain Services, maintain User Accounts, verify identity, process payments, or otherwise fulfill its obligations in connection with the Services.

- BREACH NOTIFICATION
If Canrover becomes aware of a breach of security safeguards involving Personal Information that creates a real risk of significant harm, Canrover will comply with applicable legal obligations, including notification requirements under applicable privacy legislation.
Canrover maintains records of security incidents and privacy breaches as required by law.
- COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
Canrover may use cookies, mobile software development kits (SDKs), device identifiers, and similar technologies to:
- authenticate Riders;
- maintain account sessions;
- improve App functionality;
- monitor service performance; and
- conduct analytics.
Riders may disable certain cookies through browser settings, although doing so may affect functionality.
- MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
Canrover may send Riders promotional emails, SMS messages, product announcements, and marketing communications where permitted by law.
Riders may opt out of marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism included in the communication or by contacting Canrover.
Operational, transactional, safety, legal, and account-related communications may continue to be sent regardless of marketing preferences.
- CHILDREN AND MINORS
The Services are intended only for individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years of age and otherwise legally eligible to operate a Vehicle. Canrover does not knowingly collect Personal Information from individuals under eighteen (18) years of age.
- POLICY UPDATES
Canrover may amend this Policy from time to time.
Where material changes are made, Canrover may provide notice through the App, website, email, or other reasonable means.
Continued use of the Services following notice of changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy, to the extent permitted by law.
- THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES
The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services.
Canrover is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites or services.
- COMPLAINTS
Individuals who have concerns regarding Canrover’s handling of Personal Information are encouraged to contact Canrover first.
If a concern cannot be resolved directly with Canrover, individuals may have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or another applicable regulatory authority.
